Find me on...

Pig Beach, as the stretch of pristine white sand on Big Major Spot Cay in the Bahamas’ Exuma Cays has come to be known, is a place where swimming porcine encounters are a regular occurrence. Legend has it that some years ago sailors released a domesticated pig couple who subsequently promulgated offspring that now enjoy nothing more than swimming in the crystal clear Bahamian waters. Having learned to live off the land and on scraps from visiting tourists, the endearing pigs aren’t shy about showing off their considerable aquatic talents in hopes of earning more treats.

The cay apparently earned its name, “Big Major Spot”, because it’s one of the best moorage locations for private yachts in the Bahamas with abundant anchorage near shore. Only a few kilometers from Staniel Cay, which is accessible by direct flight from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, most visitors either pilot their craft or participate in a day trip from one of the nearby resorts to experience the unique adventure to Swim with the Wild Pigs. Add a visit to Big Major Spot Cay to your list as part of your trip of a lifetime to the Bahamas and make sure you take your camera to Pig Beach.
